WHAT WILL WE DO?

Learn about Spain's bloodiest stories on the Spanish Inquisition Free Tour, and relive one of the worst eras of our country.

Together with our Spanish-speaking guide, we will discover the Spanish Inquisition's bloody stories of torture, death and darkness, hidden in the streets of Madrid. Relive the darkest side of the city in the times when the condemned walked its gloomy streets under the sound of drums, on their way to death and flames. Thus, we will visit Plaza Mayor, Calle Mayor and Plaza de la Villa, scenes of multiple "autos de fe", executions and public punishments that the Inquisition imposed on heretics and the condemned.

We will start our route in the Plaza Mayor, an arcaded square in the heart of the historic centre, considered the heart of Hapsburg Madrid. We will also visit the Plaza de los Herradores, or the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, a Plateresque Renaissance style monastery with thousands of works of art. We will walk along Calle Felipe III and the popular Calle de la Amargura.

We will also visit the Plaza de Santo Domingo, where the dungeons of the Holy Office were located, and the old Jewish quarter, a diamond in the rough where the Jewish community had its origins and where its essence can still be perceived. We will also visit the Plaza de la Cruz Verde, one of the different places where the executions of the Inquisition were carried out, and the Casa del Pastor, in the La Latina neighbourhood. This is home to Madrid's oldest coat of arms carved on its façade, and has many stories and legends that we will learn about during our tour.

Don't miss the visit to learn more about the Spanish Inquisition in a tour where there were prisons, tortures and executions, and discover the truth behind the tragic stories with our Free Tour The Spanish Inquisition.
